The brasitalgem is an output from Digital Gain-of-Function testing at the Global Institute of Technology and Innovation.
The Institute provided a risk-averse environment in which to digitally simulate possible new strains of vegetables that mother nature could otherwise taken decades to provide.
The most promising results from the the digital testing were then transferred to a real-world agricultural setting. This was tightly controlled to ensure no cross-contamination with Genetically Modified organisms.
The cross between two well-known plants from the brassica family (brocolli and brussel sprout) proved particularly successful.
The Institute’s colleagues handling polyonoms were asked to create a new word.
They took their cue from the Latin names and thus on 19th April 2024 the polyonom “brasitalgem” came into being.
